Protected Land

OAT has protected 30,800 acres of farm and ranchland in Oregon, ranging from large to small operations, organic to conventional, and located in distinct regions throughout the state.

Grazing and Habitat Protection in Baker and Malheur Counties

This easement on 27,255 acres protects two properties stretching across Malheur and Baker Counties. The properties are both active ranches as well as Oregon's first state-licensed sage grouse mitigation banks. Grazing is seen as a necessary and active management tool for the banks, making continued operation of the ranches viable.

Sustainability and Land Access in Clackamas County

This donated working land conservation easement in Clackamas County is on a 45-acre, diversified farm with a winery, orchards, and forest, all sustainably managed. The farmer-owners want to make farming financially accessible for the next generation and the easement will reduce the sale price of the land to acheive that goal. You can read our blog post about this project here.

Organic Farming Protected in Perpetuity in Linn County

This 54-acre organic vegetable farm in Linn County is considered one of the first organic farms in the state. The owner donated the easement to ensure the property is protected for ongoing farming and to facilitate land access for a new farmer in the future.

Non-Familial Succession in Lake County

The easement on this 2,544-acre cattle ranch in Lake County lowered the sale price of the land, making it possible for nearby producers to purchase it to expand their operation. Prior to selling the property, the previous owner worked with USFWS to do significant floodplains restoration on two streams. The land also contains sage grouse habitat.

Summer Pasture and Waterfowl Habitat in Lake County

This 902-acre ranch in Lake County provides habitat for waterfowl as well as summer pasture for cattle. Funds received by the rancher as a result of the easement were used to finance the purchase of a neighboring pasture.
